At Alterra Farms, we believe world-class hospitality and environmental responsibility should always go hand in hand. That’s why we’re delighted to announce our new partnership with leading environmental asset manager Beyond Zero, who will be guiding us on a transformative journey towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
Together, we will undertake a comprehensive natural capital evaluation across all areas of Alterra Farms – from our sustainable farming operations to our luxury hospitality venues, including Easton Grange and The Farmstead. This process will establish a clear environmental baseline and shape a long-term roadmap for positive change.

A Shared Vision
Ali Kerr, Owner of Alterra Farms, explains:
“I’m incredibly excited to be working with Beyond Zero on this transformative journey. This partnership represents our commitment to driving the business forward in terms of our green credentials while maintaining the highest standards of luxury hospitality. Our vision is to create a truly exceptional, high-quality destination with zero emissions here on our farm in Suffolk – proving that environmental responsibility and outstanding guest experiences can go hand in hand.”
Rosie Richardson, Managing Director of Alterra Farms, adds:
“Environmental stewardship and luxury hospitality are beautifully intertwined across our family of brands. The appointment of Beyond Zero will help us enhance our understanding of how our thoughtful farming practices – from wildflower margins to renewable energy – work harmoniously with our luxury venues. As a collective, Alterra Farms, Easton Grange, and The Farmstead demonstrate that exceptional guest experiences and environmental responsibility can flourish together, setting a new standard for sustainable luxury in Suffolk.”
What the Assessment Involves
The Beyond Zero assessment, set to be completed by the end of 2025, will include:
- Carbon auditing across all farming and hospitality enterprises (covering Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions).
- Land-based intervention plans to improve soil health, increase biodiversity, strengthen habitat connectivity, and capture carbon.
- A data-driven Net Zero roadmap considering not only environmental impact, but also wider social value metrics such as health, education, economy, and community cohesion.
- Alignment with UK Carbon Code and A Greener World Regenerative certification standards.
A Partnership for Change
Doug Wanstall, Head of Projects at Beyond Zero, says:
“We’re delighted to be working with Alterra Farms on this ambitious journey. By combining robust science, practical on-farm insight, and a clear focus on measurable outcomes, we’ll create a baseline that not only sets Alterra Farms on the path to carbon neutrality, but also demonstrates how land-based businesses can deliver wider social and environmental value. Our Net Zero roadmap will ensure their business is financially and climatically resilient, demonstrating that sustainability and commercial success can go hand in hand, and we’re proud to be part of it.”
At Alterra Farms, this marks a bold step forward in our mission: to redefine what sustainable luxury in Suffolk can look like. We’re proud to be leading the way, proving that exceptional guest experiences and environmental responsibility are not just compatible – they’re stronger together.
