SOIL HEALTH AND REGENERATIVE PRACTICES

SOIL HEALTH AND REGNERATIVE PRACTICES

Central to our approach is non-invasive tillage, which preserves the integrity of the soil while enhancing its health. By incorporating organic matter into the soil, we increase microbial activity, which in turn boosts fertility and resilience. Channels created by tillage and living roots encourage earthworms to thrive, promoting natural aeration and nutrient cycling. This process retains valuable topsoil, protects the soil surface, and creates a nutritious seed bed.

Around the farms, more than 20 kilometers of wildflower field margins provide a haven for insects. These vibrant corridors not only attract pollinators but also serve as a vital food source for a wide variety of species, contributing to a thriving ecosystem.

Multi-Species Cover Crops

Multi-Species Cover Crops

We use multi-species cover crops to protect and enrich the soil. These diverse crops build robust root habitats and offer sustenance to a range of animals and soil microbiology. The resulting patchwork of vegetation creates a mosaic effect across our fields, ensuring that wildlife is never far from food or shelter.

From 2024 to 2026, we are undertaking a significant hedgerow replanting project along farm boundaries. These biodiversity corridors will link existing woodland and provide essential habitats for birds, mammals, and insects. To share the beauty of our farm and its ecosystems, we’ve marked out permissive eco-walks, opening up the land for the public to explore and appreciate.
